Tesla officially enters the Indian market with a launch event in Mumbai
July 11 (Reuters) -tesla is ready to start a long -awaited start in
India with the opening of its first showroom in Mumbai next week, marking an
important milestone in the global expansion of the manufacturer of electric
vehicles (EV). The July 15 launch event will unveil the "Tesla Experience Centre"
at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), one of the Prime Business Hub in Mumbai.
The company has already imported
vehicles, chargers and other traders to the value of around $ 1 million into
the country, despite the concerns raised by CEO Elone Musk on India's standing
import dollar. These fees, about 70%, apply to imported vehicles-a-barrier
Tesla has chosen to navigate when it enters the world's third largest car
market.
Customs data from January to June
indicate that Tesla has brought many top-back models Y vehicles, including five
standard variants, priced at $ 32,500 each and $ 46,000 in a long-distance
version. Many super chargers and goods were also imported, mainly from China
and the United States.
Tesla's decision comes in the midst of
global sales and a decrease in additional capacity in production facilities,
leading to a strategic change to selling imported units in India.
Over the years, the government of
India, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has tried to attract Tesla for
local construction. A special EV policy was also prepared to encourage such
investments. However, Elon Musk planned to visit India last year - where an
investment of $ 2 to $ 3 billion was expected - it was canceled at the last
minute. So far, Tesla has made no intention of establishing local production.
Especially US
President Donald Trump first criticized Tesla's idea, as for setting up a
facility in India to completely avoid US tariffs, and called it
"unfair" in the United States.
In preparation for the launch, Tesla
has hired many of the 30+ roles announced in India earlier this year. The new
price includes store manager, service personnel and sales personnel. The
company continues to search for supply chain engineers and vehicle operators to
support its ambitious plans, especially within the framework of autonomous
driving technology.
Tesla's visit to India can start with
anticipation later, but with the Mumbai showroom launch, it is now officially
on the map.
